More than a container for the students, Fractal U is such a great way to take on the role of a teacher. I really enjoyed expressing that part of myself ✨
Love this. Signed up to learn more. I’m curious to see if you’ve coordinated with public libraries. My local library has excellent free classes but they need help getting people to hear about them.
Social containers are so crucial! I've bene able to delve so much deeper into interest areas in FractalU when I'm surrounded by people who are down to chat about the same thing for hours on a weeknight <3
Have you heard of a concept called Fiscal Hosting? Would be perfect for your use case. Enables you to utilize another entities legal status and bank account. They handle all of the admin, taxes etc. If you are based in the states Raft Foundation would be a great option for you! They have 501c3 status
This makes me SO happy to read—well done, you! This approach makes it possible to feed two birds, as it were, with one scone. Along with lifelong learners, you're cultivating teachers. Bravo.
The homes that host classes often ask for money to help cover cleaners, to make the space better equipped for classes, and just as a thank you. The teachers are generally friends with and in the same social scene as the hosts, and they handle payment between themselves, informally.
The admin team has been all volunteers so far, but we’d like to experiment with an admin commission going forward. In which case we will probably become a formal entity!
FractalU is one of the cooler projects I've seen spin out of a coliving space (and there are a lot of cool projects!). I love that you're sharing the template here. Imagine a world where more people build community around learning and growth...
This is so cool! I’ve definitely found I’m more likely to complete a course if I’m doing it with friends. In person sounds even better, especially in such intimate environments with people you may loosely know. Thanks for breaking this down!

Love that you have the distribution network and instructors can focus on their curriculum.

That's an interesting idea. We haven't yet, but if you coordinate with yours, let us know how it goes!

What a beautiful initiative...
Genuine question: how are you not a business or non-profit if there is commission coming from instructors?
